Mensink confirms Bleiberg was axed

Gold Coast United CEO Clive Mensink has revealed Miron Bleiberg was sacked, contrary to claims made by the departed coach.

We appreciate what Miron has achieved, he got us off and running in our first season. It's football, things happen. He's interpreted things one way, we've interpreted things another way. It's just now time for us all to move on.

Last week, Bleiberg was handed a one-match ban by GCU for his criticism of the club owner Clive Palmer's decision to hand the captaincy to the 17-year-old midfielder Mitch Cooper.
Gold Coast United are 5.00 to defeat Central Coast Mariners, who themselves are 1.66 to get the win. A draw between the two sides can be backed at 3.75.
Bleiberg and Palmer were very fond of each other in the past but the suspension left the outspoken coach fuming and he told the media yesterday that he has relinquished his position with immediate effect.
But in Monday's press conference, Mensink claimed that Bleiberg didn't resign and was forcefully made to leave by the club.
"At 6am today, no resignation letter had been received by the club. We were scheduled to have lunch today but given some of the comments made over the weekend, it was (clear) Miron wasn't going to come back. As a result the club has dismissed Miron from his position effective immediately," Mensink said.
The GCU chief then downplayed the whole affair and said that all the parties are now moving on.
"We appreciate what Miron has achieved, he got us off and running in our first season. It's football, things happen. He's interpreted things one way, we've interpreted things another way. It's just now time for us all to move on. These things happen. Whether it's right or wrong, we've all got our own opinions."
