Brett Emerton in action for Sydney.Sydney FC coach Vitezslav Lavicka has said that his team's 2-1 away defeat of Adelaide United on Sunday could trigger a positive run of form for his side ahead of the upcoming A-League playoffs.
The Sky Blues were thrashed 5-2 at home by the Newcastle Jets just a fortnight ago and at that time it was difficult to see how they could bring themselves back in contention for the finals.
However, Lavicka's men have since won consecutive league matches that have brought them back among the top six sides on the league table.
Sydney FC are 2.00 to defeat Wellington Phoenix, who themselves are 3.75 to get the win. A draw between the two sides can be backed at 3.40.
Sydney chased the ball for long periods against Adelaide United on Sunday but somehow managed to come up with a 2-1 win. Lavicka confessed that his team were the second best on the night but was still happy with the three points.
In the post-match interview, Lavicka said: "We knew before the game that it was a very important to win for both sides and we wanted to back up the win from last weekend at home against Perth.
"First half we mostly controlled the game and scored a nice goal late but in the second half Adelaide improved very well, squeezed us and pushed up and we were a bit lucky to win because they created chances and were very close to scoring.
"Our goalkeeper Ivan Necevski made some good saves to keep us alive and all the boys worked very hard on the park. Luck came to us tonight but the boys still worked very hard as a team."
